"Gliding muscular work...a pleasant revelation."
- Doug Ramsey, Jazz Journalists Association Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

A native of Washington, D.C., Alex Hoffman moved to New York in 2005. Since moving to New York he has performed with the Jimmy Heath Big Band, the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy Cobb, Terell Stafford, Brian Lynch, Donald Harrison, and Leroy Williams, and in the movie “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.  Alex first started playing saxophone when he was nine years old.  By the time he was twelve, he was passionate about the instrument and about jazz.  In 2008 Alex was selected as one of twelve semi-finalists for the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition.  He has recorded two CDs under the leadership of trumpeter Brian Lynch, "Bolero Nights," and "Unsung Heroes," and performs as the tenor saxophonist in Lynch's Spheres of Influence group and his Unsung Heroes group.  His debut CD, “Dark Lights” was released on Smalls records to rave reviews from Downbeat, Cadence, and Jazz Inside magazine.
